Course description:

The primary purpose of this course is to provide pre-service teachers with information and experiences that will help them develop and deliver effective instructional programs for students among secondary school (grades 7-9), high school (grades 10-12) and university. Major areas of content focus are the nature of the teaching/learning process, including research-based models of instruction, planning, classroom management, learning environments and motivation. Pre-service teachers will become familiar with and demonstrate evidence of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for effective beginning teaching.

Materials and Curriculum Design and Development for English Language Teaching and Learning

This course is largely a “how-to-do-it” activity and so a large part of the course involves description of the curriculum and material design process, and the elaboration and justification of the process.
Curriculum and material design involves the integration of knowledge from many of the areas in the field of Applied Linguistics, such as language acquisition research, teaching methodology, assessment, language description and materials production.

The course organized the important issues in curriculum design, namely involving learners in curriculum and material design, choosing and modifying course books, innovation theory, retraining and helping teachers and learners make use of a course that is widely applicable for ESL/EFL language education courses around the world.

Negotiation Strategy

Negotiation is a basic way of getting what one party wants from another, it is an exchange of information through communication. The information exchanged is formulated as strategies and techniques. These strategies and techniques originate from the negotiation relationship between the parties, and they also serve to continue of discount the relationship. The purpose of this communication exchange is to reach agreement between parties who have certain things ill common while disagreeing on others.

This course explores the ways that people negotiate to create value and resolve disputes. It is designed to introduce negotiation theory and to build negotiation skills. The curriculum integrates negotiation research and experiential learning activities. Some of the exercises explore aspects of bargaining, value creation and distribution, the dynamics of coalitions, multi-party negotiations with a focus on organized preparation, dispute resolution, and process analysis. Students must demonstrate learning through both experiential activities and written assignments.
